The Bento Box Project

Food. A necessity, an enjoyment, a nuisance, an indulgence, entertainment, plain, exotic, and on our minds several times a day. The questions of "what's for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack?" is upon us several times a day. Making healthy choices to answer these constant questions is often difficult, without growing bored of the same old thing.

I am no poster parent for healthy eating, but I do give it my best. I grew up with not so great eating habits and am paying for it now. This is something I never want my kids to face, and so I have constantly been only making the healthiest options available to them when they are at home, in hopes that they will create better habits then I have myself.

Bento Box lunches have been around forever, but are a recently growing idea as the "green living" movement is expanding. I have been on the organic wagon for a long time, but am wanting to explore more into the creative and healthy eating options for children. So I have decided to make a reasonable goal for myself for now. Starting September 4th, each week I will make two bento box creations for my two children, E (my 18 month old), and R (my nearly 5 year old). I hope to start out small, and as I get more knowledgeable and creative, expand the amount of days they have fun bento box lunches.

Before I start the bento box project I will make a list of all the "needed" and "wanted" items for these fun lunches. I see photos all the time and wonder aloud, "now how on earth did they make the bread look that?!" Or "where do people get the products to make these entertaining lunches?!"

I would appreciate any ideas to help me on my journey! :)
